‘I’m not paranoid, I’m really not’: They are preparing for anything, including a catastrophic disaster
Interesting, but fairly predictable piece in the Washington Post on people moving to the middle of nowhere in an odd mix of sustainable living, white identify politics, and fear :
Much of the Redoubt migration is motivated by fears that President Obama — and his potential successor, Hillary Clinton — want to scrap the Second Amendment, as part of what transplants see as a dangerous and anti-constitutionalist movement toward government that is too intrusive and hostile to personal liberties.
This is one thing that, even logically, makes no sense to me. If anything, the restrictions on firearms and heavy weapons have lessened over the last ten years or so. The 1994 assault weapons ban expired more than a decade ago and hasn’t shown any signs of coming back. Plus, if the federal government DID decide to go George Orwell on you, your assault rifle and solar panels aren’t going to do anything – the military has predator drones, for God’s sake. If it comes down to a bunch of heavily armed civilians versus, you know, TANKS, bet on the tanks. In general, always bet on the tanks.
But hey, this is America. If you want to live in the forest, and you pay your taxes and don’t hurt anybody, I have no problem with that at all. God bless ‘ya. Just don’t think you’re not as screwed as the rest of us if North Korea decides to start a nuclear war or whatever, no matter how much gold you have in the basement.
