So much for being a full-time consultant — I just agreed to become Director of Content Strategy at Contactually.
Being an almost-full-time freelancer is, like almost everything else, a mix of good and bad. It’s hard to get bored when you are switching projects all the time, and you can tell the same jokes to different clients, but working solo is a lonely road. I miss the camaraderie, the culture, and the diverse perspectives that come from working with a great team — while I spent a lot of time working remotely with the EEx team, I think I took for granted how much the daily interactions I had with them kept me going.
I have a few long-term clients I’ll continue to do a little bit of work for, but in general, I’m not going to pick up any new work for the foreseeable future. I have a very big, very exciting challenge in front of me now, and while I don’t want to give away the plot yet, it’s going to involve a lot of writing, publishing, and probably more visibility than I’m used to — so you’ll be hearing from me often.
And of course, I’ll still be here, and on Tumblr. As always, I can promise it will be interesting, and very likely entertaining.
