Hint: Getting hired is not about your G.P.A. It’s about what you can do and what you know.
This is all well and good, but (a) this is just talk – I don’t know how well Google HR actually acts on this philosophy, and (b) there’s only one Google – most companies are backwards and stupid. They want to know what your GPA is, where you went to school, and how many years of “experience” you can you have doing various things. In short, the exact opposite of this article.
Hiring is a very weird, pretty messed up thing. I’m old enough to have been on both sides of the table at this point, and there are huge, costly inefficiencies and blind spots to just about everyone’s process. It’s possible Google is an exception, but everyone says this kind of thing now, so who knows.
